From 27 th May until 3 rd June 2025, The Faculty of Science and Technology (FAST), through
the Biodiversity and Conservation (BWW) programme, successfully held a life exhibition titled
“Technology Used in Biodiversity and Conservation” at UTHM Pagoh Campus.
This exhibition was part of the Biodiversity Fest initiative, held throughout May and
June in conjunction with the International Day for Biological Diversity on 22 nd May every
year. The aim was to raise awareness and promote education on the importance of biodiversity
and its preservation through a series of interactive academic activities, with this exhibition
serving as a major highlight.
This event highlight the integration of modern technology in biodiversity research and
conservation efforts. Visitors gained a new understanding of how science and technology today
work together in environmental studies by being exposed to a broad range of instruments and
advancements utilized in the field.
Main attractions included drone demonstrations, 3D mapping generated from aerial
images, bird replicas based on real life proportions, camera trap setups, bioacoustic devices, and
live terrarium displays. The exhibition also featured simulated fieldwork activities, where
visitors learned how researchers identify study sites using drone-based maps.
Throughout the exhibition, it attracted more than 100 visitors, including UTHM students
and staff, as well as secondary school students. Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly
positive, with many expressing surprises on the diverse and modern aspects of technology used
in biodiversity work.
“It’s fascinating to see how technology is shaping this field, it’s much more
advanced than I imagined,” said one student visitor.
This exhibition serves as a platform to educate and inspire young minds, promoting
interest in biodiversity and conservation through the lens of innovation. The faculty hopes to
continue organizing similar events in the future to bridge knowledge and awareness between
science, technology, and nature.
