The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Science programme provides the opportunity for the student to acquire research skills and deepen their knowledge in an area of sciences. Student works under the guidance of an experienced supervisor who is a full-time academic staff member of the faculty. The student is examined through the presentation of the thesis and is required to take prescribed subjects in research methodology or any other subject deemed necessary by the principal supervisor.

The main aim of this programme is to provide professional development of candidate, providing experience in problem definition, hypothesis formulation and testing, data acquisition, analysis and interpretation as well as project presentation.

The core feature of this programme is the development of independent research skills including the collection and analysis of data and critical review of relevant kinds of literature.

Entry Requirements: 

General:

  • A Master of Science (MSc) or equivalent in related field from UTHM or institutions recognised by Senate; or
  • Any other qualification equivalent to a Master’s degree with relevant experience in the related field recognised by the Senate; or
  • A student with CGPA of 3.67 and above of Bachelor’s Degree from UTHM or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by Senate may apply direct to Ph.D programme

Language:

  • A minimum score of 5.5 for IELTS or 500 for TOEFL or
  • Band 3 for MUET or it’s equivalent.

Duration of Study: 

  • Full Time: Minimum of 3 years
  • Part Time: Minimum of  4 years

Tuition Fees: 

  • Local Student: MYR1400 / semester
  • International Student: MYR 3160 / semester
