M.Sc. Biodiversity Conservation

The Master of Science (Biodiversity Conservation) is an up-to-date programme offered by Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia that covers the fundamentals of biodiversity and conservation (from evolution to ecology) to advanced application such as bioinformatics, traditional knowledge conservation and nature-based tourism in today’s changing world. It is a 40-credit programme of combined coursework and dissertation (mixed-mode) and can be completed in a minimum of 3 semesters. The programme has a balanced approach of classroom and field-work based courses that take advantage of various tropical ecosystems in Malaysia, both terrestrial and aquatic, while the dissertation will enhance the student’s research capability in various topics such as taxonomy, ecology, traditional knowledge, nature-tourism, ecosystem management, bioinformatics, among others. At the end of the programme, students are expected to have acquired advanced understanding in biodiversity and its conservation and would be able to apply this knowledge in a multi- and the transdisciplinary manner in a local and global setting.

Theoretical and practice skill for employment in a diverse range of industries that requires materials chemistry expertise. The curriculum has been developed with the input from experienced academic staff and also by the industry advisory board to provide the students with the necessary skills required by the industries.   

Entry Requirements: 


  • Bachelor of Science Degree with honours from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia or any other Higher Learning Institutions recognised by the Senate
  • Other qualifications equivalent to Bachelor Degree with related experience deemed acceptable by the Senate
  • Minimum CPA (Mixed-mode) : 2.75
  • Other Qualifications will be considered: Working experiences in related field for those who do not meet the minimum CPA


  • A minimum score of 5.5 for IELTS or
  • 500 for TOEFL or
  • Band 3 for MUET or it’s equivalent.

Duration of Study: 

  • Full Time: Minimum of three semesters
  • Part Time: Minimum of six semesters

Tuition Fees: 

  • Local Student: MYR1400 / semester
  • International Student: MYR 3160 / semester
